Newly birthed, we cry– naked, helpless, bedraggled. Then, we are brought home.

A cat named Gato, and a parakeet named Bird. But she is special.

We’re comma splices: imperfect, just trying to hold it together.

Content as a king, I feel neither heartache nor joy. Just existence.  

If all goes well, he’ll make us forget there was a tiger among us.

Jeans sagging low, and boxers bared to the world, he looked like a baboon.

Like prized heirlooms pawned to purchase bread, I would give up these memories.
